What is thin slab continuous casting and rolling for packaging steel strip manufacturers, and how is its technology development?
Answer: Thin slab continuous casting and rolling is a new technology successfully developed in the late 1980s. Since the world’s first thin slab continuous casting and rolling CSP production line was put into operation in 1989 in the U.S. Nucleus Krazville Steel Plant, the technology has developed rapidly. The thin slab continuous casting and rolling production lines (including There are nearly 30 medium-thick slab continuous casting and rolling), with a production capacity of more than 40 million tons, accounting for 12% of the total output of hot-rolled strip steel. In addition to the CSP developed by SMS, there are 5 types of thin slab continuous casting and rolling technology, including D’s ISP, Sumitomo’s QSP, D’s FTSR and VAI’s C.
Practice has proved that the thin slab continuous casting and rolling process has three highs (high equipment level, high automation level, high labor productivity), three less (short process, less process, compact layout, less land occupation, good environmental protection and less pollution) and Three lows (low energy consumption, low investment, low cost) and other advantages. Compared with the traditional process, the thin slab continuous casting and rolling process also has the following characteristics:
(1) Due to the thin thickness of the slab, its cooling strength in the mold is large, the columnar crystals are short, and the as-cast structure grains are refined.
(2) Direct rolling, eliminating the intermediate cooling of the α-8 transformation temperature zone, hot rolling deformation is directly carried out on the coarse austenite structure, avoiding the precipitation of alloying elements in the process, so that the finished product structure is dispersed Harden and obtain a finer and more uniform metallographic structure.
(3) Soaking process and roller-hearth soaking furnace ensure the uniformity and stability of the head and tail temperature of the slab during the rolling process, so that the mechanical properties and thickness tolerances of the full length of the strip are uniform.
(4) Descale with powerful high-pressure water to ensure the surface quality of strip steel.
(5) High-precision dynamic hydraulic pressure automatic thickness control (HAGC), plate shape and flatness automatic control (PCFC), precise width and temperature automatic control, so that the strip geometry accuracy reaches the highest level.
(6) Higher rolling temperature, the start-up temperature of finishing rolling is generally controlled at 1100-1150℃, which is 100-150℃ higher than conventional rolling mills. Therefore, even if the number of finishing mill stands is small, it is easier to roll ultra-thin hot-rolled steel strip.
(7) Since the hourly output of the thin slab continuous casting and rolling production line mainly depends on the casting speed and the slab width of the continuous casting machine, the rolling of thin strip steel will not be affected as much as traditional rolling mills.
The above-mentioned characteristics of thin slab continuous casting and rolling make it have greater advantages in product quality and thin gauge rolling.
